On Wenesday, May 14, the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office was in the 3200 block of Kenney Drive to serve an eviction notice. Around 9:57 a.m., deputies heard or saw something suspicious which caused them to request assistance from the Police Department. Once police officers arrived, the area around the house was secured and negotiations began with the subject inside.
Around 9:20 p.m., police believe that the man set fire to something inside the residence. In an effort to gain compliance, police deployed tear gas and the man subsequently surrendered. A 44-year-old adult male was taken into custody under a mental detention order. Charges are pending further investigation. The Fairfax County Fire Department was deployed to extinguish the fire.
The Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office and the Fairfax County Fire Department assisted police throughout the incident.
