May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month; Be Alert
May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month and Fairfax County Police urge cyclists, as well as all motorists, to be alert to increased numbers of two wheelers on the roadways. With Spring weather and increased daylight, the number of cyclists grows on our congested roadways. Share the road safely, this month and always.
Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives investigated a life-threatening crash involving a motorcyclist on Sunday, May 10 at around 3 p.m. near Great Falls. The motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on River Bend Road and attempted to pass a vehicle in front of him by crossing a double yellow line at the crest of a hill. His Suzuki motorcycle collided with a Toyota RAV 4 that was traveling in the oncoming lane. The motorcyclist, a 24-year-old Hendon man, was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital. The other driver, an 81-year old McLean resident, was neither injured nor charged.
