Current Status of McKenna In-Custody Death Investigation
The Fairfax County Police Department’s in-custody death investigation of Natasha McKenna remains ongoing. We want to inform you of updated information as early as possible and reassure you that the investigation of McKenna’s death will be detailed and thorough.
Major Crimes Division detectives have concluded interviews and the case is substantially complete. As previously mentioned, the conducted energy weapon (TASER) that was used in the incident is being independently tested to evaluate if the device was operating within its designed specifications. Once the full death investigation is complete, all the evidence in the case, which includes the medical examiner’s report, conducted energy weapon analysis, audio and video recordings, witness statements in their entirety will be turned over to the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Fairfax County for final determination of criminal liability.
The Fairfax County Police Department will provide further updates within the next thirty days or as soon as additional information becomes available.
