Police responded to the intersection of Lorton Road and Armistead Road on Thursday, July 30 shortly after 5 a.m. for the report of a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle. Patrol officers arrived along with fire and rescue units. They assessed the situation and summoned Crash Reconstruction Detectives to the scene. The initial investigation determined that a 70-year-old Lorton man, Farman Batalia, was walking across Lorton Road near the intersection of Armistead Road. At that time, a 2003 GMC truck, driven by a 63-year-old Lorton man, was traveling east on Lorton Road at Armistead Road. The truck hit Batalia in the eastbound lanes of Lorton Road. The driver of the truck remained on the scene and checked on the victim. Batalia was pronounced dead at the scene. It has not yet been determined if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. It is also unknown at this time if Batalia was in a crosswalk. The investigation continues.
