UPDATE: Teen Charged with Murder

After months of investigation, detectives placed charges against a 17-year-old male in connection to the murder of Khalid Aboumalik on August 5, 2015.

The juvenile was already incarcerated in Fairfax County on a charge of robbery (of the victim). He was charged with murder on Wednesday, October 28.

The suspect is from the Huntington area of Fairfax County and police believe that he and the victim were acquainted with each other. Because he is a juvenile, his name was not publicly released.

The teen is the second suspect that has been charged in connection with the homicide.

Detectives are continuing to investigate and additional charges or arrests may be forthcoming.

(August 13, 2015) Update: Man Arrested in Homicide

On Thursday August 13, homicide detectives charged Michael Norman Powell, 19, of Alexandria, with Second Degree Murder in the killing of Khalid Aboumalik. The suspect was captured by a task force of Fairfax County Police Fugitive Detectives and The U.S. Marshals Service. He is being held with no bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

UPDATE: Victim Identified

The victim in this case has been identified as 42-year-old, Khalid Aboumalik, of no fixed address in Fairfax County. The autopsy is underway at this time. Homicide Investigation in Huntington Park

Police are investigating an apparent homicide involving a middle-aged man whose body was found in Huntington Park on Wednesday, August 5. Residents walking in the area saw a body lying on the grass and called 9-1-1 around 7:12 a.m. The victim has not been identified. He suffered apparent wounds and significant trauma to the upper body.

Detectives responded to the scene, near Liberty Drive and Arlington Terrace, along with additional police resources, including the Bloodhound and helicopter.

Huntington Park is closed due the ongoing investigation.

The Office of the State Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death and the investigation is ongoing.
