Police are investigating an overnight fatal pedestrian crash where the vehicle fled the scene. Around 10:43 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, the pedestrian, Khan Khan, 69, of the Alexandria area, was crossing Franconia Road, south to north, in the 5600 block. It appears he stopped in the unprotected median to wait for passing traffic when he was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound. The vehicle and its driver failed to stop.
Khan was found in the travel lanes at the intersection of Franconia Road and Brookland Avenue and was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is unknown if speed or alcohol are factors in the crash. Detectives would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed this crash or has information on the driver or the striking vehicle, believed to be a white, full-size van or truck.
