Response to Domestic Violence Call Results in Injuries and Arrest
The risks and dangers involved in law enforcement are present every day, as officers respond to calls for help from people in crisis on a 24/7 basis.
Officers responded to a report of screaming and glass breaking in an apartment in the 11800 block of Federalist Way at around 10 a.m. Monday, November 2.
Upon arrival, a naked man attacked two officers in the stairwell and struck them numerous times. The suspect then drug one of the officers down the flight of stairs. Officers deployed pepper spray while struggling with the suspect.
Additional officers responded to the scene. The suspect had apparently stuffed electronics and other items into his oven and set fire to the kitchen just prior to police arrival. Two officers entered the apartment and extinguished the fire. Several officers suffered from smoke inhalation while attempting to evacuate the surrounding apartments of the building, and were transported to Inova Fair Oaks Hospital. Five officers were transported for medical treatment from pepper spray exposure, smoke inhalation and injuries sustained from the assault. Three other officers were checked for smoke inhalation at the hospital.
The suspect was also transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital to be treated for exposure to pepper spray, minor injuries and observation. A female on the scene was treated for an injury sustained prior to arrival of officers.
The Fairfax County Fire Marshals responded to the scene and are investigating the nature and origin of the fire.
Officers charged the suspect, Hussani White, 26, with two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, and attempted arson of an occupied dwelling. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center upon his release from the hospital.
