Update -Detectives in Final Stages of In-Custody Death Investigation

Detectives from the Fairfax County Police Department’s Major Crimes Division are continuing their investigation regarding the in-custody death of Paul Guida, which occurred on Saturday, October 17, while he was an inmate at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Guida, who was in the custody of the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office had been housed in the infirmary and was found unresponsive around 11 p.m. An autopsy was conducted on Monday, October 19.

The police department has received the final report from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner which notes the manner of death as hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease with diabetes mellitus contributing. The manner of death was determined to be natural.

Detectives are concluding their final reports and documentation of their investigation for submission to the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Fairfax County for final review.  The Fairfax County Police Department will provide an update when the case has been submitted, which is expected to be within the next thirty days.
