Detectives had obtained a murder warrant for Jai Hyun Cho, the 73-year-old male suspect referred to in the original release. On Saturday, January 9, around 9 a.m., Cho succumbed to the injuries he sustained on December 21. The murder warrant has been withdrawn. Cho lived at the Pennys Town Court address.
Homicide Investigation in Annandale
Shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday, December 21, officers were called to a home in the 7100 block of Pennys Town Court to check on the welfare of an adult female.
Officers arrived and began to check the home. Through a basement window, they saw what appeared to be an adult male and an adult female, collapsed on the floor. The woman, 56-year-old Kum Yeon, of Alexandria, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 73-year-old male, of the Pennys Town Court address, was transported to a local hospital in life-threatening condition. He is considered a suspect in this case. The preliminary investigation determined that electricity might have been used to cause the death but the actual cause and manner will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. There is no apparent threat to public safety and detectives believe that the victim and suspect were known to each other.
