DEATH/ TRAFFIC RELATED INCIDENT: 5200 block of Sully Rd. 1/18/16, 9:59 a.m.

A 54-year-old man died in a vehicle on Route 28 yesterday. Police are not yet clear on the cause of death. Brian C. Sherwood of Front Royal was driving a 2014 Hyundai Sonata when he was seen veering off of Sully Road near Westfields Boulevard. His car struck a guardrail and came to rest on the shoulder of the roadway. Fellow motorists reported the incident to police and one attempted to provide CPR prior to the arrival of rescue personnel. The patient was transported to Inova Fair Oaks Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. While the cause of death is not known, it is believed it is likely medical in nature. Cause and manner will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

ROBBERY: 2800 block of Graham Rd. 1/15/16, 4:30 p.m. A 15-year-old boy was walking home when he was approached by an unknown female. She produced a handgun and demanded money and property. The victim handed over his cell phone, wallet and an undisclosed amount of cash and he was not injured. The suspect was described as a light-skinned black female, around 5 feet 6 inches tall, with an average build. She had dark hair and “buck teeth.” She was wearing all black.

ROBBERY: 6300 block of Arlington Blvd. 1/15/16, 9:30 p.m. A 72-year-old man was walking from a grocery store to his car when he was approached by another man who displayed a handgun and demanded money. The victim handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and was not injured. The victim fled on foot. He was described as Middle Eastern, 25-30 years old, wearing a gray, hooded jacket.

BURGLARY: 7300 block of Poplar Ct. 1/15/16, 1:27 p.m. A resident reported someone entered the residence and took property.

BLOG POST: UPDATE: Death Investigation

COMMERCIAL ARMED ROBBERY: 6300 block of Little River Turnpike. 1/17/16, 12:17 a.m. A man entered the lobby of the Pizza Bolis, displayed a handgun and demanded money. An undisclosed amount of cash was handed over and there were no injuries. The suspect was described as black, about 6 feet tall, with a thin build. He was wearing all black clothing; including a puffy jacket and a mask.

BURGLARY/STOLEN AUTO WITH APPREHENSION: 10700 Cross School Rd. 1/16/16, 8:18 p.m. A resident reported that he had been away from his home all day and upon his return, discovered that his car was missing from his garage. In addition, he discovered that a door to the home had been forced open and property was missing. While officers were on the scene, the victim’s car returned to Cross School Rd. The officers stopped the car and took the occupants into custody. The investigation is ongoing.

BLOG POST: Police Seek Public’s Assistance Identifying Suspect; Peepings in Springfield Area

ROBBERY: 6900 block of Highland St. 1/16/16, 9:37 p.m. A 35-year-old man, driving a taxi-cab, was dispatched to an address on Highland Street. A man flagged him down and asked for help loading a bag into the trunk of the cab. When the driver exited the cab to assist, two other men came out of the bushes; one displayed a handgun, and they demanded money from the cab driver. The victim refused to cooperate and was subsequently assaulted. The suspects took the victim’s car keys and his wallet, which contained an undisclosed amount of cash. The victim did not require medical attention. The suspects fled on foot. All three were described as teenagers; two Hispanic and one black. All were wearing black clothing.

BURGLARY: 6500 block of Backlick Rd. 1/17/16, 8:55 a.m. A complainant reported that someone entered the business and took an undisclosed amount of cash.

UNLAWFUL ENTRY: 7300 block of Gene St. 1/15/16, 4:15 p.m. A resident reported someone entered an unoccupied residence. Unknown if anything was taken.

BLOG POST: Commercial Burglary at Annandale Electronic Cigarette Store

ARREST/CONVICTED SEX OFFENDER ON SCHOOL PROPERTY: 4700 block of Medford Drive, 01/15/16, 9 a.m. A man was arrested at Annandale High School after the school’s Visitor Management System (VMS) alerted staff he could be a registered sex offender. The man was at the school to speak to staff about his child’s enrollment. All visitors are required to check-in using the school’s VMS, which checks them against the National Sex Offender Registry. An investigation determined he was a convicted sex offender. He was taken into custody and transported to the jail. Larry Lucas, 63, of Alexandria, was charged in violation of 18.2-370.5, which states any subject who is a convicted sexual offender is prohibited from entering upon school property.

COMMERCIAL ROBBERY: 6400 block of Shiplett Blvd. 1/18/16, 8:06 p.m. A man entered the Cedar Café, displayed a handgun and demanded money. An undisclosed amount of money was handed over and there were no injuries. The suspect fled on foot. He was described as black, 35-45 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and around 150 pounds; wearing a blue jacket.

BURGLARY: 7700 block of Donnybrook Ct. 1/17/16, 9:04 p.m. A resident reported that someone entered the residence and took cash and property.
