Burglary /Assault Investigation in Mount Vernon Area


At around 3 a.m on Saturday, February 20, officers responded to a home in the 8400 block of Blankenship Street for the report of a burglary and assault. A 51-year-old woman was awakened by an unknown male intruder. The suspect threatened and sexually assaulted the victim and then fled. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was described as Hispanic, about 25 years old. He was wearing a black jacket and he was carrying a black backpack. Patrol officers, the police helicopter (Fairfax 1), K9 and Major Crimes Detectives have been canvassing the area; looking for the suspect and seeking any information about this incident. We would like to remind all residents to lock all doors and windows before going to bed or when you leave your home. Motion sensor lights on the outside of your home and lights on timers inside your home can be valuable deterrents to crime.
