UNAUTHORIZED USE OF A VEHICLE/STRANGULATION/ ABDUCTION/DOMESTIC ASSAULT/RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT OF A CHILD: Fordson Road/Dunbar Street, 03/10/16, around 12:30 a.m. Police responded to a report of an assault. An investigation determined a 28-year-old woman got into an argument with an acquaintance, a 29-year-old man. He allegedly physically assaulted her then fled in her vehicle. She was transported to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. While in the hospital, it was reported the suspect arrived there looking for the victim. Police and security searched the area; they did not locate the suspect but the victim’s vehicle was located nearby and returned to her. Police obtained warrants for unauthorized use of a vehicle, strangulation and domestic assault.

Later, around 6 a.m., police were dispatched to a crash in the area of Holland Road and Sherwood Hall Lane. An investigation determined the same victim and suspect were involved. The victim was driving with her child when she heard and noticed something unusual coming from the rear of the vehicle. The suspect was hiding in the vehicle and allegedly attempted to grab the victim as she was driving. The struggle caused the victim to veer off the roadway and crash. As police and rescue personnel arrived on scene, the suspect fled on foot. He was located a short time later in the 3000 block of Fordson Court. Both the victim and suspect were taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Mark Ricks, of Alexandria, was later transported to jail and charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, strangulation, abduction, domestic assault and reckless endangering of a child. Additional charges possible.
