Police responded to the 4500 block of Apple Tree Drive on Sunday, March 27 shortly before 5 p.m. for the report of a man with blood on him. Officers arrived, located the 26-year-old man and quickly realized he had been stabbed in a lower extremity. Rescue transported the victim to Inova Fairfax Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Detectives determined that a group of individuals, known to each other, got into a verbal argument that escalated into a physical fight. During that altercation, the victim was stabbed. Through further investigation, detectives identified John Mercado, 19, of Ben Franklin Court in Springfield as a suspect. Mercado was arrested on Monday, March 28. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with malicious wounding. He is being held without bond.
