This morning around 10:24 a.m. officers were called to a residence in the 7000 block of Leewood Forest Drive for a domestic violence call for service. Upon arrival, they located an adult woman outside the residence in a panicked state. She explained to officers that her spouse was upset and had threatened her by pointing a handgun at her. As she was exiting the residence, the victim heard sounds of what appeared to be gunshots coming from the residence.
Officers took immediate action and secured a perimeter around the residence to isolate and contain the threat from the community. Residents were advised to stay in their homes and a portion of Backlick Road was blocked while the incident took place.
Additional resources responded as the initial indication of the event dictated a possible barricade. A warrant for brandishing a firearm was secured after consulting with the Fairfax County Magistrate’s Office for what had allegedly transpired inside the residence between victim and her husband.
After over two hours of repeated attempts to make contact with the man inside the home, officers from the Special Operations Division utilized an expandable tool to get a better observation point through the front door of the residence which was partially open. Officers were able to see the deceased 67 year-old man inside the home lying on the floor.
The woman did not sustain any physical injuries during the incident.
We would like to thank the community for their patience during the incident.
