Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred on Old Keene Mill Road near Carrleigh Parkway, on Thursday, May 5, shortly before 6 a.m. The preliminary investigation suggests that a 1994 Toyota Corolla was traveling west on Old Keene Mill Road in the right lane. The vehicle drifted off the roadway and struck a cement wall. The driver, Sherrymay Piza, 43, of Alexandria, was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital and was pronounced dead. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this crash. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is investigating the possibility that a medical emergency could have occurred prior to the crash. No one else was injured.
