 “Light the Night” Fun Run to Support Special Olympics Virginia

Mason District Station Neighborhood Patrol Units and the Motors Squad conducted a Pedestrian Enforcement Campaign on Leesburg Pike and Little River Turnpike on Friday, May 6, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Their efforts resulted in 25 citations issued, 126 warnings given, and 159 pedestrian safety pamphlets handed out.

Checkpoint Results: Richmond Highway at Dawn Drive, 05/07/16. Officers in the Mount Vernon District conducted a sobriety checkpoint searching for drunk drivers. 917 cars were screened and there were no DWI’s; however, traffic seven summonses were issued.

SHOOTING INTO AN OCCUPIED VEHICLE: 3800 block of El Camino Pl/Buckman Road, 05/07/16, 11:36 p.m. A security guard reported that as he was attempting to detain two men for drunk in public when they attempted to flee in a vehicle and struck the security guard. The security guard fired rounds from his service weapon into the vehicle. The suspects and the victim did not require medical attention. The suspects were detained until police responded. Durrell Koon, 34, of Baltimore was arrested and charged with drunk in public. Jerry Brown, 52, of Burke was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.

Unlawful Filming in McLean

COMMERCIAL ROBBERY: 8000 block of Leesburg Pike, 05/08/16, 3:06 a.m. Two men entered a convenience store and displayed a handgun to an employee. The suspects took cash and property and fled. The victim did not require medical attention. The suspects were described as black, approximately 6 feet tall, one wearing a silver sweatshirt, and the other wearing a black sweatshirt with his face covered.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY: 1700 block of Clubhouse Road, 05/07/16, 1:00 a.m. Police responded to a business for a burglary alarm. Responding officers located a door open and while waiting for K-9 to respond, a man was seen walking away from the business with a backpack. Further investigation revealed that the man had allegedly been inside the business and taken property. A juvenile was arrested and charged with burglary.

ROBBERY: 12000 block of Sunset Hills Road, 05/08/16, 9:30 p.m. The victim was walking on a trail when two men pushed him to the ground and took his property and fled. The suspects were described as Hispanic, late teens to early twenties, approximately 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 11 inches, wearing dark clothing.

UPDATE: Bus Driver Charged in Crash Involving Police Cruiser

Robbery: 6500 block of Frontier Drive, 05/06/16, 6:12 a.m. The victim was walking on the sidewalk of a shopping center and was approached by a man who displayed a knife. The suspect removed the victim’s wallet and then fled with another man waiting nearby on a moped. The victim did not require medical attention. One suspect was described as Hispanic, approximately 5 feet 4 inches, wearing an American Eagle shirt. The other suspect was described as black, approximately 6 feet tall, and wearing a black sweatshirt with a hood.
