Springfield Woman Struck and Killed by Train

Officers and detectives responded to the 9500 block of Burke Road on Monday, May 16, for the report of a pedestrian struck by a train at approximately 9:38 p.m.

The preliminary investigation determined that three friends were walking along the tracks when one was struck. Erika Dunn, 18, of Springfield, sustained life-threatening injuries and  was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital where she later died.  No one else was injured.

The cause and manner of the death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The investigation is ongoing.
