UPDATE: Detectives Do Not Suspect Foul Play for Woman Found in Pond

Detectives of the Major Crimes Division continue their investigation into the deceased person found in a pond in the 6200 block of Ridge Pond Road in Centreville. They are still working on identification and notifying next of kin but detectives have confirmed that the deceased is an adult woman.

Circumstances surrounding the death do not appear to be suspicious or criminal in nature; the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

Shortly after 12 p.m. on Monday, May 16, officers were called to the 6200 block of Ridge Pond Road for a report of a deceased person in a pond at the apartment complex. Paramedics from Fairfax County Fire & Rescue also responded.

An investigation determined a resident was walking in the area and saw what appeared to be a body in the pond. Shortly after 3 p.m., members of the Fairfax County Police Department Underwater Search and Recovery Team (commonly referred to as the Dive Team) retrieved the body of a female from the water.

Crime scene and homicide detectives responded and are investigating.
