At about 11:40 p.m. on Monday, May 16, a patrol officer operating a marked police cruiser attempted to stop a 4-door Volkswagen for an equipment violation on Richmond Highway near Old Richmond Highway. The vehicle did not yield to the officer’s signal to stop and continued to travel north bound on Richmond Highway, attempting to elude the officer. As the suspect vehicle approached the exit ramp to I-495, it changed lanes and crashed into the driver’s side front fender of the police cruiser. This caused the Volkswagen to spin around to the right of the police cruiser and subsequently struck a jersey barrier and overturned. The officer summoned medical assistance for the driver and he was extricated by Fairfax County Fire and Rescue personnel.
The driver, Brandon K. Moon, 30, of Oxon Hill, Maryland, was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Arrest warrants were obtained for Driving on a Revoked License – 5th offense, Felony Speed to Elude and other traffic charges.
