Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Falls Church


Officers from the Mason District were called to the area of Leesburg Pike and Glen Carlyn Road on Wednesday, May 18, at around 3:40 p.m. for a report of a traffic crash involving a single-vehicle and a pedestrian. Crash Reconstruction Detectives determined that the driver of a 2012 Jeep Wrangler was making a left turn from southbound Glen Carlyn Road onto eastbound Leesburg Pike. The pedestrian, 71 year-old, Medardo Carrillo Arias was attempting to cross Leesburg Pike from south to north, outside of the crosswalk. The driver of the Jeep attempted to avoid the pedestrian, however, was unable to and Mr. Arias was struck. The driver of the Jeep stopped immediately and remained on-scene.

Paramedics with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department arrived and confirmed Mr. Arias deceased at the scene. The driver of the Jeep was not injured.

Speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
