Update: Chief Roessler Releases Video of Fatal Pedestrian Crash Involving Police Cruiser

Franconia Police District – Fairfax County Police Department, Chief of Police, Colonel Edwin C. Roessler Jr., is releasing the police in-car video of the fatal pedestrian crash which occurred Saturday, April 2, shortly after 11 p.m.

The crash investigation determined the pedestrian stepped into the roadway, not having the right-of-way and the police cruiser was unable to avoid a collision.  On June 17, 2016, the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Fairfax County, Mr. Raymond F. Morrogh, concluded his investigation of the crash and rendered a legal opinion that no individual bears criminal responsibility for this unfortunate accident.

Colonel Roessler’s staff has met with the family of the deceased, along with their legal counsel and staff from the Office of the Fairfax County Attorney.  The family and their legal counsel were provided with information including a copy of the in-car video.

This will be the final update as the crash investigation has concluded.
