Police Investigate Thefts of ATM Machines
Franconia, Mount Vernon, Mason, Sully Police Districts – Detectives are investigating a series of ATM thefts that have been occurring around the region, including Fairfax County. Between June 18 and July 20, there were six reported cases. Five reported incidents involved stolen ATMs; one incident was a report of a stolen vehicle that detectives believe to be a part of the ATM thefts.
An investigation determined in all cases that suspects utilized stolen vehicles to carry out ATM thefts from various businesses in the early morning hours. Further investigation determined the suspects later abandoned the stolen vehicles nearby and fled the area.
In all cases, the suspects were described as black, approximately 175 to 200 pounds, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, and wore dark-colored clothing with their faces covered.
