On July 22, officers conducted a DWI patrol saturating the Rt. 50 corridor. Three drivers were charged with DWI, 47 summonses were issued and one criminal arrest was made.


Police Investigating Reports of Two Homes Fired at in Clifton Area

ROBBERY/MALICIOUS WOUNDING: 14700 block of Lee Hwy, 07/25/16, 9:02 p.m. Officers responded to a report of a robbery. An investigation determined that a man had approached someone at a gas station, displayed a knife, and demanded money. The victim was able to flee. A short time later, someone entered the gas station with apparent injuries and requested help. He reported he had allegedly been robbed and stabbed a short distance away. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, which were later upgraded to non-life-threatening. The suspect was described as black, mid 20s, with long braided hair.

COMMERCIAL ROBBERY: 6100 block of North Kings Hwy, 07/25/16, 2:53 a.m. A man entered a convenience store, displayed a gun, and demanded money. The suspect took cash and fled. The victim did not require medical attention. The suspect was described as black, mid 30s, with a medium build.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING: 3100 block of Lockheed Blvd, 07/25/16, 2:35 a.m. The victim was walking when he was approached by a man who allegedly assaulted him with a blunt object. The suspect fled in an unknown direction and the victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was described as black and wearing dark clothing.

BURGLARY: 7900 block of Janna Lee Avenue, 7/22/16, 2 p.m. A resident reported someone entered their residence and took property.

ROBBERY: 3000 block of Fairmont Street, 7/22/16, 12:25 a.m. The victim was unloading the trunk of his vehicle when two men approached him from behind. One suspect allegedly assaulted the victim and took property. The suspects were wearing all black clothing and their faces were covered. The victim did not require medical attention.

ROBBERY: South Lakes Drive/Soapstone Drive, 07/23/16, 4:30 p.m. The victim was walking when a man attempted to grab her purse. The suspect displayed a small knife and a struggle ensued. The suspect fled on foot and was described as Hispanic, about 25 years-old, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall and 250 pounds, with a mustache and short hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jean shorts.

BURGLARY: 11700 block of Karbon Hill Court, 06/24/16, 12:50 a.m. A resident reported that she awakened to a man entering her home through a window. The suspect fled in an unknown direction and was described as white, 20 – 30 years old, wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.

TRESPASSING: 11000 block of Caris Glenne Drive, 7/22/16, 9:30 p.m. A resident reported someone entered their residence and shut off their power. No property was taken.

SEX OFFENSE: 6600 block of Springfield Mall, 7/24/16, 5:45 p.m. Police responded for a report of a man who was taking videos of women up their skirts. An investigation determined that the victims were unaware of the video-taping and the suspect was also touching himself inappropriately, while doing so. Responding officers located the suspect and arrested him. Miguel Avelar-Medina, 32 of Edgewater, Maryland was taken to the adult detention center and charged with one count of masturbating in public and two counts of unlawful videotaping.
