Update: Suspect in Parental Abduction Extradited to Fairfax County Jail

Flora Khatun was extradited from Prince George’s County to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on Monday, August 1 and served the warrant charging her with parental abduction.



Original release (7/13/16): AMBER Alert Generated for Missing Baby, Parental Abduction

Police responded to the Fairfax County Department of Family Services office, located at 7611 Little River Turnpike, on Tuesday, July 12 for a report of a missing juvenile. An investigation determined that Child Protection Services (CPS) had a court order to remove a 6-week-old baby from a local home. CPS staff could not locate the baby or her mother and subsequently contacted the police for assistance.

Detectives of the Major Crimes Division took over the investigation and were also unable to locate the suspect and victim. Further investigation determined the suspect may have fled with the child in a 2011 blue Toyota Sienna with Virginia license plate XJG-1035. On Wednesday, July 13, detectives obtained a parental abduction warrant for Flora Khatun, 31, of Falls Church, and coordinated an AMBER Alert to locate the missing child.

Subsequent update (7/13/16): UPDATE: Missing Baby Located; Suspect in Custody

Police received a tip this afternoon, Wednesday, July 13, from a local reporter who received information from a source on the possible whereabouts of Flora Khatun and her 6-week-old baby. Detectives of the Major Crimes Division acted without delay to follow up. The timely information proved to be accurate and around 5 p.m., with the assistance of the FBI’s Washington and Baltimore Field Offices and the Prince George’s County Police, Flora Khatun was located with the baby in the 3500 block of Dean Drive, in Chillum, Md.

Khatun was taken into custody and transported to a local jail. The baby was in good condition and will be returned to the appropriate Fairfax County agency for care and custody. Khatun will be extradited to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where she will be served with the parental abduction warrant.
