Serial Bank Robber Arrested



McLean and Mason District – On Tuesday, August 9, at approximately 3:45 p.m., a robbery occurred at the Wells Fargo Bank located at 2903 Gallows Road in Falls Church, Virginia. A lookout was broadcast and officers from the McLean District quickly saturated the area, set up a perimeter, and located and detained a suspect a short time later. The suspect was subsequently identified as David Canavan, 53, of Vienna. Canavan was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center (ADC) and charged with robbery.

Subsequently a thorough investigation was conducted by the Fairfax County Police Department and the FBI Washington Field Office Violent Crimes Task Force. Canavan is believed to be the same person responsible for two other bank robberies in Fairfax County on June 1 and July 5 of this year.

On August 9, 2016, Fairfax County Police Department Major Crimes detectives obtained three robbery warrants that were served on Canavan and he is currently held without bond at the ADC.
