Sully Police District – Detectives with the Major Crimes Division, Homicide Section continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the house fire at 12107 Fairfax Hunt Road in Fairfax on Wednesday, July 27. A neighbor called 911 around 11 a.m. and reported seeing flames coming from the house. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department personnel responded. During fire suppression efforts, firefighters discovered two bodies in an upstairs bedroom in the home and summoned personnel from the Fairfax County Police Department to assist with a death investigation. Several gasoline cans were found throughout the house and it appears that there were multiple points of origin for the fire.
Major Crimes Division detectives have received information from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner regarding the bodies found in the house. The victim has been identified through DNA as Rumsey’s biological daughter, Kyra Franchetti; she was 28 months old. The cause of her death was determined to be gunshot wound and the manner of death was homicide. Roy Eugene Rumsey’s cause of death was gunshot wound and the manner of his death was suicide.
The investigation is still ongoing.
