Car Thief Suspect Caught in the Act

Auto Theft detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man who allegedly stole a 2008 Ford Econoline 350 on Thursday, August 25. An investigation determined the victim, a 55-year-old man, parked his work van in the 6000 block of Arlington Boulevard, in the Falls Church area, around 2 a.m. He returned a few hours later around 6:20 a.m. and the van was gone. Further investigation revealed the van was equipped with a camera system and officers obtained a photo of a possible suspect. The suspect appears to have followed a dump truck that may be related to this incident.

The van was recovered later the same day in Hyattsville, Md.; however, the suspect was not located. An image of the suspect and the dump truck are featured below:

He was described as black, 40 to 50 years old, with a goatee and wore glasses. Anyone with information on his identity or whereabouts or information about the dump truck is asked to call Detective Fox at 703-246-7517 or Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131 or contact Crime Solvers by e-mail at, text “TIP187” plus your message to CRIMES/274637 or phone at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477.
