GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Police Explorer (Youth) Program: Seeking New Recruits, Registration Only Happens Once a Year: One informational session, called a “First Nighter,” was held on Monday, September 19. Nearly two dozen potential candidates attended. Two more sessions are planned in the coming weeks. We look forward to meeting more of our community’s youth and share details on becoming a Police Explorer!

Two more First Nighter sessions will be held at 7 p.m. on the following upcoming Mondays:

  • September 26 at Police Headquarters in Fairfax (Massey Building, 4100 Chain Bridge Road, in Fairfax, A-level conference room)
  • October 3 at West Potomac High School in Alexandria

Virginia Department of Transportation will be milling and paving on Guinea Road, reducing it to one lane, alternating between Braddock Road and Route 236 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the next few weeks. Stay alert and follow officers’ direction. They will be in the work zone for safety.

ALCOHOL ENFORCEMENT

There will be a sobriety checkpoint this Friday, September 23, in the McLean District from 11:15 p.m. to 2:15 a.m. Plan ahead; make arrangements to stay at a friend or loved one’s place, call for a taxi or designate a sober driver.

SULLY DISTRICT STATION

ASSAULT: Airline Parkway/National Drive, 9/20/16 around 3:25 p.m. Police responded to a report of an assault. An investigation determined the victim, a 16-year-old girl, was walking home when she was approached and confronted by an acquaintance, a 17-year-old girl. The two began fighting. A passersby broke up the fight and both the victim and suspect left the area. The victim was later taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation continues to determine whether charges are appropriate.

MOUNT VERNON DISTRICT STATION

UNLAWFUL ENTRY: 6900 block of Westhampton Drive, 9/20/16 between 9 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. An investigation determined someone entered a home through an unlocked door while no one was there. Nothing was reported missing from the home.

MASON DISTRICT STATION

MALICIOUS WOUNDING/DRUNK IN PUBLIC/ARREST: 6600 block of Arlington Boulevard, 9/20/16 around 9:54 p.m. Police charged a man for allegedly stabbing an acquaintance, a 34-year-old man, during an argument. An alert officer on patrol noticed a man bleeding profusely from his hand standing outside a gas station. The officer approached him, determined he had been cut with a knife and called for emergency medical personnel. The suspect, Santiago Ayala, 55, of Falls Church, was still at the scene; he was arrested, taken to jail and charged with malicious wounding and drunk in public. The victim was transported to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

RESTON DISTRICT STATION

INDECENT EXPOSURE: 2400 block of Centreville Road, 9/20/16 around 1:14 a.m. Police were called to a report of an indecent exposure at Breakers Sky Lounge, located at 2445 Centreville Road. An investigation determined a 35-year-old man was sitting inside when he allegedly exposed himself then began touching himself inappropriately. Staff removed him from the business and called police. Charges are pending.

FAIR OAKS DISTRICT STATION

BIAS INCIDENT: South Penderbrook Drive/Inverness Road, 9/20/16 around 7:30 p.m. A 40-year-old woman and 47-year-old man were walking outside when a man in a car drove by, pointed at them, shouted a racial slur, and then drove off. Police determined no crime occurred but documented the incident.
