Police Explorer (Youth) Program: Seeking New Recruits, Registration Only Happens Once a Year: Two informational sessions, called a “First Nighter,” were held on Monday, September 19 and Monday, September 26. Nearly two dozen potential candidates attended each meeting.

One more First Nighter session is scheduled for TODAY at 7 p.m at West Potomac High School, 6500 Quander Road, Alexandria. We look forward to meeting more of our community’s youth and share details on becoming a Police Explorer!

There will be sobriety checkpoint in the Reston District this Friday, October 7, from 11:15 p.m. to 2:15 a.m. Please drive sober and stay safe!

ROBBERY: 7900 block of Janna Lee Avenue, 9/30/16 around 9:42 p.m. An investigation determined a 54-year-old man was delivering pizza in the area. As he exited his vehicle, a teenaged girl confronted him. As he removed a pizza from his car, the suspect attempted to grab it as a second suspect, a teenaged boy, approached and assaulted him. The suspects were unable to take the pizza but fled with the victim’s keys. They were both described as black, about 16 years old. The girl was about 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds, with thick black hair and wearing a black and red checkered shirt. The victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

GRAND LARCENY/RESISTING ARREST/ARREST: 7900 block of Richmond Highway, 10/1/16 around 4:03 p.m. Police were called to a business for a shoplifting report. Officers approached the suspect as he was exiting the store. The suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended nearby. Jaymon Harris, 19, of Alexandria, was taken to jail and charged with grand larceny and resisting arrest.


ROBBERY: 7900 block of Audubon Drive, 10/3/16 around 12:55 a.m. An investigation determined a 20-year-old man was walking when another approached him from behind. The suspect assaulted the victim and took his cell phone and wallet. The suspect was described as black, between 30 and 36 years old, with a light complexion and about 5 feet 11 inches tall and 190 pounds. He wore a black shirt with white writing and black pants. The victim declined medical attention.

ROBBERY: Gosnell Road/Raglan Road, 10/1/16 around 10 p.m. An investigation determined a 22-year-old man was walking home when a man approached from behind. The suspect displayed a gun and demanded money. The victim relinquished an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspect fled. He was described as white, between 20 and 30 years old, about 6 feet 2 inches tall and 200 pounds. He wore a black hoodie, dark blue jeans, black Adidas shoes and gloves. The victim did not require medical attention.

ASSAULT ON A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER/DISORDERLY CONDUCT/DRUNK IN PUBLIC/ARREST: 8300 block of Jones Branch Drive, 10/2/16 around 11:37 a.m. Police were called to a bus stop for a report of a woman acting belligerently and shouting at people, including a responding officer. An investigation determined she was intoxicated. When the officer attempted to take her into custody, she resisted and scratched his face and a struggle took place. Other officers arrived; they were able to gain control of the suspect. Latrina Medlock, 46, of Reston, was taken to jail and charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct and drunk in public. No mug shot is available.

LARCENY BY FALSE PRETENSES/ARREST: 6200 block of Seven Corners Center, 10/1/16 around 9:45 p.m. Police responded to a business for a report of two men who made fraudulent purchases on Friday, September 30 and returned to the store the next day. As officers arrived, both suspects attempted to flee; one was apprehended. Brandon Corey McCoy, 21, of Upper Darby, Pa., was taken to jail and charged with larceny by false pretenses.


ROBBERY/ARREST: 3000 block of Patrick Henry Drive, 10/1/16 around 10:50 p.m. Police arrested a man for robbing a 41-year-old man. An investigation determined the victim was walking when the suspect approached from behind, displayed a weapon and demanded the victim’s cell phone and wallet. The suspect took these items and fled. Officers located the suspect and took him into custody. Elmer Tenas Silva, 25, of Arlington, was taken to jail and charged with robbery. The victim did not require medical attention.

BURGLARY: 12700 block of Hitchcock Court, 10/3/16 around 2:38 a.m. An investigation determined someone entered the home’s garage. A resident heard the door opening, went to check and the suspect fled. Nothing appeared to be missing from the home. Further investigation determined a garage door opener was left inside a vehicle parked outside.

UNAUTHORIZED USE OF A VEHICLE/ARREST: 7900 block of Brunswick Forest Pass, 9/11/16 around 4 p.m. Police arrested a 19-year-old woman on Saturday, October 1, for allegedly taking her family’s vehicle without permission. An officer observed a broken down car in the area of Little River Turnpike and Heritage Drive and stopped to assist. An investigation determined the car had been reported stolen on Sunday, September 11 and police had obtained a warrant for the driver, Ardo Farah. Farah, 19, of Annandale, was taken into custody and transported to the jail, where the warrant was served.
