Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Franconia

Franconia District Station – Officers responded to the intersection of Little River Turnpike and Braddock Road around 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, for a report of a pedestrian that had been struck by a 2002 Ford F150.

Preliminary investigation determined that the driver, a 59-year-old man, had a green light and turned right on to eastbound Little River Turnpike from Braddock Road when he struck a woman. The driver of the truck remained on scene.

The pedestrian was crossing Little River Turnpike from north to south outside of the crosswalk and was wearing a dark jacket and no reflective clothing. She was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The woman appears to be 60 to 70 years old. Detectives are attempting to confirm her identity.

Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) responded to the scene to investigate. Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors to the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
