Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Reston

Reston District Station – Officers responded to the intersection of Reston Parkway and South Lakes Drive around 6:20 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, for a report of a pedestrian that had been struck by a 2016 Jeep Wrangler.

Preliminary investigation determined that a 57-year-old female was attempting to cross Reston Parkway, not within a crosswalk, when she was struck by a Jeep that was traveling southbound. The 30-year-old driver of the Jeep remained on scene and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries by medics.

The pedestrian, Asress Gobena Lakew, of Reston, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) responded to investigate. Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors to the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
