Detectives Investigating Two Cases of Fraud

Mount Vernon Police District – Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying two suspects involved in two separate incidents.

The first incident occurred on February 1, around 9 p.m. at the Safeway located at 1624 Belle View Boulevard. A man entered the store and purchased over $1300 worth of gift cards with counterfeit money. The suspect made threatening statements toward the cashier and fled after obtaining the gift cards.

This suspect was described as black, 30 to 40 years old, approximately 5 feet 10 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall, and weighed around 200 pounds. He was wearing a black hat, gray jacket, black pants, and he had a beard.

The second incident occurred on February 24, around 3 p.m. at the CVS Pharmacy located at 1636 Belle View Boulevard. A man entered the store and claimed that he had been armed with explosives by a third party and needed to purchase gift cards. The suspect then provided counterfeit money to the cashier in exchange for gift cards valued over $800.

This suspect was described as black, 45 to 55 years old, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, and weighed about 150 to 160 pounds. He was wearing a black hat, black sunglasses, a white long sleeved, button up shirt, tan pants, and was clean shaven.
