Dressing for Cold Weather

Extreme inclement weather may require us to implement the Accident Policy. When the Accident Policy is in effect, officers will respond only to crashes involving personal injury, hit and run and fatal crashes. These temporary restrictions can be activated on a countywide basis or in individual police districts by police commanders.

MOUNT VERNON DISTRICT STATION

SUSPICIOUS PACKAGE: 6000 Block of Richmond Hwy. 3/14/17, 4:58 p.m.

A man arrived at the business around noon carrying a large black duffle bag. He sat down in the business center to use a computer. He got up several times and walked around the business. He then placed a mask over his face and stated that they needed to evacuate the business.  He retrieved two packages that were wrapped in paper, that he had apparently placed in front of the business. He also took a large knife from his duffle bag and waved it in the air. He demanded that the business call the police, which they did. Officers arrived on scene and took the suspect into custody. They found the packages and set up a wide perimeter outside the business. The business was partially evacuated and EOD, the Explosives Ordnance Disposal Unit, commonly known as the bomb squad, was contacted and responded to examine the packages and the duffle bag. An X-Ray of the packages and duffle bag revealed a number of random, non-lethal items. The suspect, 31-year-old, Jeremiah Vernon Hazelton, of Louisiana, was charged with utilizing a hoax device, threats to burn, and wearing a mask in public.

No arrest photograph is available at this time.
