Barricade Continues in Fort Hunt Area
Mount Vernon Police District – Around 8 last evening, we received a call from a friend of a man who lives in a home in the 8600 block of Thomas J. Stockton Parkway. The caller said his friend appeared to be experiencing a mental crisis and that he was concerned for his welfare. We responded to the home shortly thereafter. Officers contacted the man inside the home but were not allowed inside. We developed information that two small children were also in the home and we now believe they are four and eight years old.
As the situation unfolded, it became clear that the man needed services to help him deal with his crisis. An emergency custody order (ECO) was issued and we tried to convince him to come out so we could get him help, but he refused.
As of 11 a.m. our crisis negotiators continue an on and off dialogue with the man.
We are concerned for his welfare and that of the children and are handling this situation very carefully. He has not made threats to harm his children.
