MASON DISTRICT STATION

ATTEMPTED ROBBERY/BRANDISHING: 6100 block of Leesburg Pike/3000 block of Castle Road, 6/17/17 between 8:30 p.m. and 9:06 p.m. Officers responded to the area on Castle Road after a report of a man getting out of a car and running through a yard. A preliminary investigation determined that a group of men attempted to rob another group of men in the parking lot of an apartment complex about a mile away, on Leesburg Pike. The victims were playing basketball and had just returned to their car. A second vehicle approached and a man got out of that car, displayed a handgun and demanded money. The victims did not hand over any cash and the suspect returned to his car and fled. The victims followed the suspect and his passengers to the 3000 block of Castle Road where it is alleged the same suspect brandished a handgun at the victims a second time. No shots were fired and no one was injured. Officers detained several suspects and charges are pending as the investigation continues. This incident appears to stem from an ongoing feud between individuals who are familiar with one another. Officers recovered a handgun involved in this case, in the woods near the suspect’s vehicle.
