UPDATE: 2016 Lorton Homicide Ruled Justifiable

Franconia Police District – On July 25, detectives closed their investigation into the homicide that occurred on Hagel Circle on September 7, 2016. The Office of the Commonwealth Attorney for Fairfax County determined that there was no basis for criminal prosecution in this homicide.

The investigation revealed that the deceased, a 17-year-old and another man, 18-year-old Daniel Winkfield, of Lorton, met another 18-year-old man from Manassas Park, on Hagel Circle on the night of September 7, 2016. The apparent purpose of the meeting was to conduct a drug transaction. During that meeting, the 17-year-old and Winkfield attempted to rob the man from Manassas Park of his money at gun point. That man then shot the 17-year-old in self-defense. Winkfield has been charged with robbery and is awaiting trial.
