UPDATE: Arrest Made in June Carjacking of Taxi Driver

Franconia Police District – Detectives arrested 31-year-old Cuther Lee Watts of Bladensburg, Maryland yesterday afternoon for carjacking a taxi driver over the summer. The victim was sitting in his car around 3:30 a.m. on June 14 in the 7000 block of Manchester Boulevard when Watts approached and implied he had a weapon. He demanded money, forced the man out of his cab and drove off with the car. The victim did not require medical attention. Watts is being held without bond at the Adult Detention Center.

Detectives Investigate Armed Carjacking

Franconia Police District – Detectives are searching for a man who stole a taxi cab at gunpoint.

Officers responded to a parking lot in the 7000 block of Manchester Boulevard around 3:30 this morning for a 62-year-old cab driver who reported that he was sitting in his car reading, when a man with a mask over his face opened the door, implied that he had a gun and demanded money. The victim handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and was then pulled from the car by the suspect who then jumped in the 2015 black and yellow Toyota Highlander and drove away. The victim did not require medical attention. The taxi cab was marked with “Springfield Taxi” on the sides and has Virginia license plates H130961 on the front and back. The suspect was described as black, around 6 feet tall with a skinny build.
