DRUNK IN PUBLIC/ATTEMPT TO DISARM A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER/ARREST: 7800 block of Heritage Road, 1/6/18 around 2:50 p.m. Patrol officers were initially dispatched to an overdose. While medics were loading the patient into the ambulance, a 24-year-old man approached the officers and was acting belligerently. Officers placed him under arrest for being drunk in public. As officers attempted to put handcuffs onto the suspect, he began actively resisting. A Taser was deployed, but his jacket stopped the barbs from making contact. The suspect was then taken to the ground. While on the ground, he grabbed an officer’s gun, not once, but twice. A Taser was deployed two more times to his legs with no desired effect. Eventually, officers got the man into handcuffs. We’re grateful no officer was injured. The suspect, Yojan Lopez, was taken to the Adult Detention Center and charged with drunk in public, attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest.
