Detectives Investigating Fatal Crash in Springfield

Franconia Police District –  Officers were called to the scene of a crash in the 7700 block of Loisdale Road yesterday, just before 12:30 p.m.  Officers found that a 2006 Ford Ranger being driven by 73-year-old James Jones, of Manassas, was traveling south on Loisdale Road.  He then hit a jersey wall causing his car to travel into the northbound lanes of Loisdale Road and collide with an oncoming car.  Jones and the driver of the other vehicle, a 66-year-old women from Lorton, were both taken to the hospital.

Jones was pronounced dead a short time later at the hospital.  The other driver received non-life-threatening injuries.  Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate the events that led to the crash.  Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors contributing to the crash.  Detectives are working to determine if Jones suffered a medical emergency before the crash.
