Eye in the Sky Helps Catch Carjackers

Franconia Police District – Two teens are facing several charges after our eye in the sky, Fairfax 1, helped officers on the ground nab them. An investigation shows 19-year-old Andonis Martinez Turcios and a 17-year-old, both of Alexandria, stole a Honda Accord yesterday morning from a driveway of a Prince William County home. They drove to the 6700 block of Hopewell Avenue in Springfield where they crashed into several parked cars which caused the stolen car to breakdown. The suspects left the car behind and approached a woman who was sitting in her sedan in the 5000 block of Blacksburg Road. They took out a knife in an effort to steal her car but were unsuccessful and immediately ran away. Officers arrived at the scene and began searching for the suspects. Fairfax 1 quickly noticed a man matching the lookout description walking on a trail in the woods. Our helicopter guided an officer to the suspect, who immediately gave up and was taken into custody. Patrol officers caught the other suspect in the 6800 block of Commercial Drive.

Martinez Turcios was charged with attempted carjacking, gang participation, possession of stolen property and hit and run. The 17-year-old boy was charged with attempted carjacking, gang participation, possession of stolen property and failure to report an accident.
