Detectives Working to Identify Body Found in Woodlawn Park

Homicide and crime scene detectives are in Woodlawn Park this afternoon after our police officers discovered a body in a wooded area just off a path around 11 this morning. The park is in the 4800 block of Manor Drive in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. The body was almost entirely covered by leaves and brush. An investigator with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner arrived at the park early this afternoon. Our crime scene detectives will continue to process the scene for several hours. The body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Manassas.

In the event the body is identified as a juvenile, due to a new state law, we are prohibited from providing almost any information at all unless parental consent is provided. This law went into effect on July 1st of last year. It prohibits Virginia law enforcement agencies from directly or indirectly identifying deceased juvenile victims of crime. The body won’t be identified until tomorrow at the earliest.
