Homicide Victim Identified as 17-year-old from Centreville

Sully Police District – Our homicide detectives were able to confirm the identity of the body found in Centreville on Wednesday as 17-year-old Matthew Ortega, during an autopsy at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The autopsy results are pending. Due to the ongoing criminal investigation, at this point we are only confirming Ortega died as a result of trauma to the upper body. We are continuing to investigate every lead.

Homicide Detectives Tenatively Identify Body Found in Centreville

Sully Police District – Homicide detectives have tentatively identified the victim in yesterday’s homicide as a juvenile. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy. Detectives are working closely with them to confirm his identity. With the new state law, we are prohibited from providing almost any information at all unless parental consent is provided. This law went into effect on July 1st of last year. It prohibits Virginia law enforcement agencies from directly or indirectly identifying deceased juvenile victims of a crime.

Detectives Asking for Public’s Help to Identify a Homicide Victim

Sully Police District – Detectives are asking for the public’s help identifying the homicide victim found in the 13000 block of Jeb Stuart Square in Centreville. At 5:17 this morning, officers responded to the area after a delivery driver saw a body lying in the street with upper body trauma. Medics arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene. No weapons were found at the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is expected to conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
