UPDATE: Swimmer’s Death Ruled Drowning

Reston Police District –  The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has determined the cause of the death was drowning, with the contributing cause of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

The body of Mr. Ruby was recovered at Lake Audubon today around 12:45 p.m.  Our Marine Patrol and Underwater Search and Recovery Team were assisted by the Fire Department Search & Rescue throughout the event.  His family has been notified. Foul play is not suspected.  The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

Recovery Efforts Continue After Apparent Drowning During Race

Reston Police District – Recovery efforts will continue early tomorrow morning after a 45-year-old Falls Church City man apparently drowned today.  Kevin Ruby was competing in a swim race at Lake Audubon, located at 2070 Twin Branches Road, in Reston. We responded with the Fire Department around noon after a concerned family member had not heard from Mr. Ruby for over an hour.  Officers quickly determined he had never reported in at the conclusion of the race.  The lake was searched into the evening tonight without success.
