Detectives Working to Identify Body Found in North Hill Park
Mount Vernon District Station – Detectives are investigating after a body was discovered this morning in a wooded area in North Hill Park in the Hybla Valley area. Detectives from our Gang Intelligence Unit and Major Crimes Bureau developed information that led to the discovery early yesterday morning of what appeared to be freshly disturbed soil. Crime Scene detectives worked to process the scene, which eventually led to the discovery of a body in a grave this morning.
We believe this to be an isolated incident. Preliminarily, indications are this could be gang-related. This is a very active and early investigation, and we will continue to provide any updates as we are able.
Our Crime Scene detectives will continue to process the scene, which will likely last through tomorrow. The body will be taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for identification and cause and manner of death.
