Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Mount Vernon

Mount Vernon Police District – A 51-year-old woman died after being hit by a car on Thursday evening. Peace Nana Asante, of the Alexandria section of Fairfax County, was crossing Richmond Highway outside of the crosswalk near South Kings Highway around 8 p.m. The driver of a 2001 Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound on Richmond Highway and struck Asante. The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with detectives. Asante was taken to a nearby hospital where she died from her injuries. Preliminarily, alcohol does not appear to be a factor for the driver or the pedestrian. Detectives have not yet determined if speed was a factor.

This is the 1st pedestrian fatality in the county to date in 2020.
