Woman in Custody Following Domestic-Related Homicide in Mount Vernon
Mount Vernon Police District – A woman is in custody following a domestic-related homicide that occurred early yesterday morning in the Mount Vernon area of Fairfax County. Officers responded to an apartment in the 3000 block of Furman Lane shortly after 8:30 a.m. for a report of a man who had been stabbed. Officers found 32-year-old Charles Alvarez, of Alexandria, suffering from trauma to his upper body. He was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
Detectives continued their investigation which revealed that his sister, Sarah Esmeralda Viera, 23, of Alexandria, was responsible for the stabbing. She was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with murder. She is being held without bond.
Detectives are continuing their investigation into the events leading up to the stabbing. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death.

This is the 3rd homicide year to date in Fairfax County.
