Fairfax County Police Department Investigating Inmate Death at Adult Detention Center

Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau are investigating the in-custody death of 30-year-old inmate Christopher Fojt, of Reston. Fojt was found unresponsive in his single-cell around 11 p.m. Thursday night. He was taken from the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center (ADC) to an area hospital where he remained under the care of a physician. Sadly, he was pronounced deceased yesterday. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy, but preliminarily, there are no signs of foul play.

Fojt had been in custody of the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office and incarcerated at the ADC since Apr. 21. Our detectives are coordinating with the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office to gather the facts and circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

By policy, we investigate all Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office in-custody deaths. To read the Sheriff’s Office news release, here.
