UPDATE – Homeowners Assaulted in McLean

As the investigation continues, detectives have authorized the release of the suspects’ names and charges. Andrew Schmuhl and Alecia Schmuhl of 5918 Atteentee Road in Springfield, have both been charged with two counts of abduction and two counts of malicious wounding.  The Schmuls remain in custody in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Both victims remain hospitalized. Andrew Schmul’s arrest photograph is not available at this time.

McLean Police District – Police responded to a home in the 900 block of Spencer Road on Sunday, November 9, shortly before 10 p.m. for a reported home invasion robbery and stabbing. Officers entered the home and found the homeowners; one man and one woman, suffering from apparent stab wounds to the upper body. Both victims are 61 years old. They were both transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The initial investigation conducted by patrol officers determined that the male occupant of the home responded to a knock at the front door. The man outside the door made his way into the home and assaulted the male homeowner. Hearing a disturbance, the female occupant of the home made her way toward the front door, when she too was assaulted by the suspect. The suspect apparently fled when one of the victims was able to activate an alarm, summoning police.

Officers obtained enough information from the victims about the suspect, that they were able to broadcast a vehicle lookout. Additional responding officers located the suspect vehicle a short time later and two suspects were taken into custody. The 31-year-old male suspect and the 30-year-old female suspect have been charged and remain in police custody. Their identities and the charges are being withheld as the investigation continues.

At this time, detectives do not believe this was a random act but are still attempting to determine the totality of the circumstances.

There is no threat to public safety.
