Accomplished Officers Bring Their Experience to Fairfax County Police Department

Fairfax County, VA – Experienced officers find new opportunities and an expedited police academy at FCPD.

FCPD is pleased to welcome five newly hired police recruits to our “Option 5” lateral academy. This lateral academy is an abbreviated 8-week training for sworn police recruits from other states, that have held a sworn patrol position with a different police agency. Our new officers come from departments in New York, Tennessee, Florida, in addition to several Federal agencies.

With an abundance of previous law enforcement experience, this specified training covers legal updates, driving, firearms and defensive tactics. These officers will participate in a DUI refresher course, as well as familiarization with our report management system for our FCPD recruits.

Amidst the diversity of experiences these officers bring, their integration into FCPD marks a significant advancement in strengthening the department’s capabilities. The Option 5 lateral academy not only streamlines their transition but also ensures they are equipped with the latest knowledge and skills necessary to excel in their roles. As they embark on this journey, they will not only enhance the department’s effectiveness but also contribute to the safety and security of Fairfax County residents.

The “Option 5” lateral academy fulfils the required Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) training hours for all the attendees.
