UPDATE: Springfield Man Charged with Second Degree Murder

Police charged Thomas R. Lienau, 53, of 8163 Curving Creek Court, Springfield with second degree murder at around 2 p.m., Friday, July 24. The victim, Mohammed Moshin Najim, 25, was an acquaintance of the suspect. Detectives believe there had been in altercation in the home earlier that evening, the victim left, then came back to the home and was shot by the suspect.

Lienau is being held without bond.

(July 17)Death in Springfield Area

Detectives are investigating a death that occurred in the 8100 block Curving Creek Ct. in the Springfield area on Thursday July 16. Police responded to the home at around 10 p.m. for a report of a disturbance. Upon police arrival to the home, officers discovered a man with an apparent gunshot wound to his lower extremities outside on the front stairs.

Upon further investigation, a person and weapon, believed to have been involved in the shooting, were located.

The victim was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and died.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. They believe it was an isolated to the residence, and that the two men involved knew each other. Police do not believe there is a threat to the public.

The Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
